Jerry Garcia/Old & In The Way - The Boarding House, San Francisco, April 16th 1973

Short lived bluegrass super group recorded at The Boarding House, San Francisco, on Monday April 16th 1973 and broadcast by WBAI-FM. Features Jerry Garcia/banjo, David Grisman/Mandolin, Richard Greene/fiddle, Peter Rowan/guitar and John Kahn/ bass.

Bridging the divide between traditional & progressive bluegrass the bands interplay soars throughout the entire set. Highlights include a defining interpretation of the Stones ‘Wild Horses’ and Peter Rowan’s Panama Red.

Michael Bloomfield - The Record Plant '73 with Mark Naftalin

In a Rolling Stone interview Dylan remembered Bloomfield as "the guy that I always miss..... he had so much soul. And he knew all the styles". Al Kooper, that "he had 90% talent, 10% ambition"and in 1966 Clapton called him "music on two legs"

Combining stinging treble-tone, articulate and fluid phrasing and headlong full tilt soloing, he was without comparison or peer.

This session with long term collaborator Mark Naftalin at the Record Plant, Sausalito 1973 broadcast by KSAN-FM features a more relaxed mostly acoustic show, proving that his artistry had not yet been diminished by the debilitating powers of insomnia and heroin.

And again from Dylan "I think he'd still be around if he'd stayed with me"

Nick Gravenites and Blue Gravy featuring Paul Butterfield -  The Record Plant '73

Nick "Gravy" Gravenites the acknowledged link and catylst between the sixties white blues boy scene of Chicago and the burgeoning acid/hippy happenings of San Francisco has a remarkable and imposing CV.

Writing for the Quicksilver Messenger Service, Janis Joplin's Kosmic Blues Band and the Butterfield Blues Band, he eventually formed the Electric Flag with Mike Bloomfield in 1967 and scored the soundtrack to 'The Trip'.

Although surviving barely a year, Blue Gravy were a doggedly and persistantly popular attraction in the Bay Area. This is the only known live recording aired by KSAN-FM from the Record Plant in Saulsalito on the 22nd April 1973 featuring the imposing presence of Paul Butterfield on harmonica. A dazzling and sensational performance.

The Flying Burrito Brothers - White Line Fever – The Record Plant, Hollywood, September 19th,1971

Following Sneaky Pete's decision to leave the band in April '71 for a more lucrative day job as a session player in L.A., Al Perkins was drafted in from Texas band 'Shiloh'.

Their third album 'The Flying Burrito Brothers' was released on A & M in June after which, Bernie Leadon departed to join Linda Ronstadt’s backing band with Glen Fry, Randy Meisner & Don Henley....

By now a Burrito show was divided into an electric country rock section followed by an acoustic bluegrass segment led by Bob Gibson on vocals.  On September 19th the band recorded this Jim Dickson produced legendary performance for KMET radio station at the Record Plant in Hollywood.

Spirit - Seattle’71 – KSIW-FM Broadcast

Acknowledged as Spirits tour de force performance this legendary broadcast by KSIW-FM from the Paramount Theatre, Seattle, Washington in 1971 sees Randy California and the gang pull out all the stops.

Blistering, Hendrix inspired guitar explorations from Randy sympathetically held down by the rhythms of Ed Cassidy and Mark Andes, and John Locke’s jazz rooted keyboard mastery.

Roger McGuinn's Thunderbyrd - The Living Room Concert '76

Live WLIR broadcast from the Living Room Studio, Long Island, NY on September 14th 1976.

This short lived line-up featured Bruce Barlow, bass, Lance Dickerson, drums, both ex Commander Cody plus James Q Smith, guitar, ex John Mayall.

After the touring party that was Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue, came to an end, McGuinn and new foil Mick Ronson entered the studio to record the tighter and rockier Cardiff Rose.  A career highlight, many of the songs are featured here in this fascinating broadcast.

Bob Weir and Kingfish - Live at the Calderone ’76

Legendary broadcast by WLIR-FM from the Calderone Theater, Hempstead, Long Island, New

York on the 27th March 1976. Weir, a childhood friend of Matthew Kelly, joined the band in ’74 securing them a record deal and bolstering their live performances with his distinctive vocals and unique guitar phrasing. An exceptional live band, this concert is testament to their tight yet fluid interplay. However, soon it was time for Weir to return to his day job and the completion of the ‘Deads’ ‘Shakedown Street’ – but that’s another story.....
