SOLO BROADCAST RECORDING FROM DAVID BYRNE DURING HIS LOOK INTO THE EYEBALL TOUR
Having started his career in the mid-1970s as the front man of pioneering New Wave collective Talking Heads, David Byrne established himself as a bona fide collaborator as early as 1979 via the much-praised My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts with Brian Eno, and the soundtrack to The Catherine Wheel, a ballet by Twyla Tharp, in 1981. Byrne’s first post-Heads solo album, Rei Momo in 1989, was followed by The Forest in 1991.
On 8th May 2001, Byrne released his sixth solo album, Look Into The Eyeball. Continuing the exotic sound he had championed throughout the 1990s - influenced by Afro-Cuban, Afro-Hispanic and Brazilian music and with heavy use of sampling - the record peaked at No. 58 on the UK charts, while its lead single, ‘Like Humans Do’, was used by Microsoft to showcase their latest version of Windows Media Player. To support the album, David Byrne embarked on a 32-date tour of North America and Europe. The recording featured on this CD was captured at The Fillmore Auditorium in Denver, Colorado on 24th May 2001. Simultaneously broadcast nationally on FMradio, Byrne plays a selection of cuts from his latest album as well as several solo and Talking Heads numbers, alongside a curious coverof Whitney Houston’s ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)’.
