Shankar is now firmly established as a pioneer of sitar funk, fusing the musical traditions of his homeland with a solid rock and roll influence – but he also worked in the classical idiom, as the elegiac Missing You (dedicated to his late father) demonstrates. A Musical Discovery, meanwhile, boasts tracks ranging from the mellow Namaskar to the break-laden Kaziranga Beat and haunting Dawn At Varanasi. Originally released in India only, they make their long-awaited CD debut here, complete with biographical liner notes.
