| South African-born Sharon Tandy is a bona fide 1960s legend, with a story to match. Blue-eyed soul, freakbeat and state-of-the-art Brit-girl pop, she handled it all with consummate ease and one of the best voices of the time. "You Gotta Believe It’s Sharon Tandy" is the first ever career retrospective of this unique, and until now somewhat enigmatic, artist. The track-listing includes virtually all her UK singles 1965-69, upon most of which Sharon was accompanied by psychedelic avatars the Fleur De Lys – tracks such as ‘Daughter Of The Sun’, ‘Gotta Get Enough Time’ and the in-demand mod anthem ‘Hold On’ have been sought-after collectors’ items for years. Seven tracks, including five previously unissued, derive from Sharon’s legendary 1966 session at Stax in Memphis, where she was backed by Booker T & The MGs – the first European to record at that hallowed venue. The package features an in-depth look at Sharon’s career, with full co-operation from the lady herself, and is copiously illustrated with many rare photos. | |
