Running over 130 minutes, the programme consists of the original 81 minute film made at the time, supplemented by a new 51 minute special feature. The original footage, by film-makers Albert and David Maysles features fabulous black and white footage from the Beatles' arrival in the US - in planes, cars, hotels - an intimate insight into that first visit. Also from the original film are some of the most well-known Beatles appearances including the Ed Sullivan Shows from New York and Miami, plus selections from their sell-out concert in Washington's Coliseum. Performances include 'All My Loving', 'I Want To Hold Your Hand', 'Till There Was You', 'She Loves You', 'From Me To You', 'This Boy', 'Twist And Shout', 'Please Please Me', 'I Saw Her Standing There', 'I Wanna Be Your Man' and 'She Loves You'. The original black and white footage showing a 'behind the scenes' view of Beatlemania, has been re-graded and the sound re-mastered, and now includes audio commentary by Albert Maysles. The special feature titled 'The Making Of The Beatles First U.S. Visit' is hosted by Albert Maysles today, reminiscing what it was like for he and his brother to film and record the Beatles on their first American visit - a fascinating document with some wonderful out-takes. |
