Allman Brothers Band - 'Live At The
Beacon Theatre'
(2003) The Allman Brothers Band have a yearly residency at New York
City's Beacon Theatre every March. 2003's event has been captured on
a 2 Disc, 3 hour DVD set. Go here
for the details. £24.99 Remember this one? Late in 1971 members of the classic
Fairport/Fotheringay family visited the new Manor Studios to revisit their rock'n'roll roots.
'Rock On' captures Sandy Denny, Ashley Hutchings, Richard and Linda Thompson and
others performing some of their favourite rock'n'roll songs. First
time on CD, now with three bonus tracks. £12.99. Here for more Featuring an extra seven songs not in the original VHS tape (running time now over 90 mins) and an unseen documentary 'Prophecies & Messages' (54 minutes),
Bob Marley & The Wailers - 'The Legend
Live' is available on DVD for the first time. Shot
at the Santa Barbara County Bowl on November 25th 1979, only a year before his death, this is one of the final Marley performances to be filmed.
All the details here.
£14.99 'Muleskinner' was perhaps the one and only bluegrass
supergroup. Composed of
David Grisman (mandolin, vocals), Clarence White (guitar),
Peter Rowan (guitar, vocals), Richard Greene (fiddle), and
Bill Keith (banjo), "the group formed as a favor to a California public T.V. station looking for someone to perform on a show with Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys. Their appearance on the show was so successful that the band was offered a one album deal with Warner
Bros". Available on CD for the first time. New liner notes by Peter Rowan. Originally released in 1974 on Warner Bros.
£12.99 Much delayed, Gene Cark's 'Under The Silvery Moon'
includes 29 previously unreleased recordings restored from the original masters. Also Included is a 16
page booklet featuring photos of the sessions. Go
here for the track listing, £8.99 3
new imported Brazilian DVDs featuring some of the biggest
names in 60s and 70s rock in concert. George Harrison - 'The Concert
for Bangladesh' - Recorded in 1971,
put together by George Harrison to raise funds for UNICEF's relief efforts to aid war victims in Bangladesh.
With Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Billy Preston, Ravi Shankar and
many others. The details are here. 'The
Stamping Ground Festival'
from the Kralingen Pop Festival in Rotterdam 1970 - Known as the Dutch Woodstock apparently, and its not
hard to see why, from the lineup (Santana, Airplane, Canned Heat) to the candid audience shots (nudity, drugs) it has the same feel as the more famous
festival film. The line up is great
however, and having watched it, while there's no digital remastering going on here,
its well made and very watchable with some excellent performances, (a far more interesting
Santana than appeared at Woodstock for instance). 89 minutes
long. There's
also the added bonus's of Pink Floyd (very little in-concert
footage exists of the band from this era) and the Byrds. The full
line-up and tracklisting appears here. A
review of the DVD is here on the brain damage web site. £16.99.
Deep Purple - 'Machine Head Live 1972' Recorded in Denmark in 1972 with the classic line-up of: Ian Gillan, Ritchie Blackmore, Roger Glover, Ian
Paice and Jon Lord and featuring the following songs 01. Highway Star 02. Strange Kind Of A Woman 03. Child In Time 04. The Mule 05. Lazy 06. Space Trucking 07. Fireball
08. Lucille 09. Black Night 94 minutes long £16.99
The
Grateful Dead -
'The Very Best Of' On Rhino, The first-ever
collection to gather the best of their Warner, Grateful Dead Records, and Arista years on a single disc. Includes “Truckin’”, “Uncle John’s
Band”, “Touch Of Grey”, “The Music Never Stopped” and many more.

'Sweetheart of the Rodeo' (Special Edition/2CD Set Released 1 Sep 2003). CD One contains the original 11 track album, followed by outtakes and alternate versions of the same songs including the Gram Parsons vocals that were left off the original album and rerecorded by McGuinn, then a Kevin Kelly vocal version of 'All I Have is Memories' plus a Columbia Records radio Spot for the album. CD Two contains a mass of alternate versions and rarities: including the A and B sides of the International Submarine Band's lone single on Columbia 'Sum Up Broke'. Then 14 previously unheard alternate versions of ' Sweetheart' tracks, more rehearsal cuts and some studio chat then some instrumentals. All in all, the second CD offers up 61minutes of rare and mostly unreleased
music along with an excellent photo-packed colour booklet.

Them triolgy, 'Belfast Gypsies'
finds the band with maverick producer Kim Fowley "developing the beat sound like psychedelia never happened!..the crude guitars, the swirling farfisa...much like The Monks!....Combined with the semi-rap lyrical sensibilities Fowley had used in "The Trip", it was an awesome sound....but one out of time....this album, put together for the Swedish market where The Gypsies were a legendary live attraction, never saw a proper release outside Sweden....but here it is expanded with their mega-rare single "People Let's Freak Out" featuring Fowley and the infamous Guy
Stevens". Go here for more
details and the track listing. Various Artists - 'Down The Basement'
- "Joe Bussard's Treasure Trove of vintage
78's" (from Old Hat Records)"Joe Bussard has been called the “King of Record Collectors,” and there’s solid evidence to justify such a title. In the basement of his Maryland home is a vast treasure trove of American vernacular music first recorded in the 1920s and ‘30s- old-time songs, hillbilly hoedowns, hot jazz, country blues, jug band music, sanctified singing, and lots more! For over 50 years, Joe has pursued this music with a passion that borders on mania, building a world-class collection of 78rpm records- more than 25,000 in all. With Joe’s cooperation, we’ve carefully remastered 24 tracks of this rare music, representing the major genres of his collection. Not everyone can actually visit Joe’s musical archives, but 'Down The Basement' will deliver the next best thing—a potent dose of this great American music! Comes with a 72-page full-colour booklet.

can't think why you'd be interested in my opinion, but like
me you may not have heard an SACD before and, as I've spent
all day listening to these albums, I'll tell you what I
think. Firstly, audio equipment - I didn't use a pure SACD
payer but a Sony DVD player (Sony DVP-NS705V - £199, so not
'high end' stuff) with the ability to play SACDs, put
through a goodish but ancient (35 year old) analogue amp and
some similarly specced speakers. The results? Stunning. The
separation of the instruments, the warm sound of the voice
and the absolute clarity of the reproduction put the originals
to shame. Of course we knew they were poor, never having
been digitally remastered, but if you're a Dylan fan
pondering a sonic upgrade to your old CDs, don't think you
won't be able to tell the difference, you will. (Of course,
you may say, we're trying to sell there things so we're bound to say they're
good!!)

Dylan
SACDs :Described as
"The First Major Sonic Upgrade of His CD Catalog" Fifteen Bob Dylan albums have been released in the Hybrid Super Audio CD (SACD) format. These discs also feature restored artwork based on original album packaging. Hybrid Super Audio CD discs feature a high-density layer which can provide high-resolution, multi-channel surround sound in addition to a separate two-channel stereo SACD version of the same music, and a layer with a CD version of the recording.
The result is a hybrid disc whose full audio potential can be realized by the new generation of SACD players, and which is fully compatible with all other existing CD players on the market today.
"These fifteen titles mark the start of a long-term program to enhance and upgrade the sonic quality and packaging elements of one of the most important album catalogs in popular
music".
'Blonde on Blonde', along with five other titles - 'Another Side of Bob
Dylan', 'Bringing It All Back Home', 'Blood On the Tracks',

masses of 'Rubble' titles, psychedelia and rock. October Psychedelic releases from
Sundazed: "Who else but
Sundazed could have put together a mindbending, six-album October release schedule that follows the cross-country route of the dayglo-painted bus of the Merry Pranksters? Not surprising really, since unearthing ultra-rare, vintage, garage and psychedelia are the one of the hard-earned cornerstones of our reputation. Gassing up in California with a paisley-powered, unreleased third album from San Francisco's
Mojo Men ('There Goes My Mind?
£11.99) in tow, we motor south to pick up a startling unissued work by
Raik's Progress, ('Sewer Rat Love
Chant' £11.99) a Fresno combo with Beefheart and Mothers overtones. Then we highball it over to Minnesota to snag albums by a pair of heroic Land o' Lakes combos, the
Stillroven ('Too Many Spaces' £11.99)
and The Paisleys ('Cosmic Mind At Play' £12.99), before making a beeline for New York where our journey ends with a pair of Gotham legends.. The rabid garage mayhem of the
Bruthers ('Bad Way To Go! £11.99)
is the perfect NYC foil for the holy grail of psych: the long-rumored but never released album by
The Gurus ('The Gurus Are Hear!'
£12.99) -an electric-raga laced masterpiece of mind expansion. These are not just reissued albums with bonus tracks added. Be aware that none of these mind-altering albums, except for the Paisleys, has ever seen the light of day before!

classics on the way: H.P. Lovecraft - 'H.P.
Lovecraft': "Now re-issued as 1 album CD the classic debut album by USA 60's
Psychedelic band". Morgen - 'Morgen' "Finally, a CD reissue of
Ultra Rare but all time favorite Psychedelic 60's album from USA. Led by Steven Morgen, who simple named his band
Morgen. A true Psychedelic artifact originally release on Probe 1968/1969. Comes with original
artwork 'The Scream' from Edvard Munch" Phantom's Divine
Comedy - 'Part One' "One and only album by Phantom's Divine
Comedy a very Doors-like rock outfit from the USA from the early 70's. A vocalist sounding so much like Doors it was scary,
especially as this record was releases right after the death of Jim Morrison. Elektra tried to get the record banned but it only meant promotion for this album, as you understand. Great psych."
Silver Apples -'Contact' "UK import. Reissue of the NY
pioneering duo's second and final album (1969), featuring such classics as 'You And I', 'I Have Known Love' or A Pox On You'. Drums, vocals and oscillators made up this
duo" Wizards from Kansas - 'Wizards from Kansas' "Reissue of
Ultra-Rare album from this Psych band from Kansas USA. Originally released on Mercury in 1970 and since then very sought after as only a few were pressed and NOT promoted at all, due to the fact the band called it a day. Leaving Mercury with an album, but no band to promote
it" £9.99 each Click
here for the following: Iain Mathews - 'If You Saw Through My Eyes' (£12.99)
and Jason Ringenberg - 'A Day at the Farm with Farmer Jason' £11.99

Robert
Wyatt - 'Solar Flares' "This
album started its life as simply a collection of the two BBC Top
Gear sessions that Robert recorded in 1972 and 1974. But as we
worked on it, Robert became more and more involved in it, until it
ended up in its final form. In addition to the Top Gear recordings,
there is a previously unheard and little known 1973 soundtrack for a
short experimental film, two recent works with old collaborator Hugh
Hopper and finally a 2003 home demo of a new song that did not end
up on Robert's new release "Cuckooland". Additionally,
this CD includes a Quicktime movie of that 1973 film, as well as a
16 page booklet filled with photos, artwork and stories supplied by
Robert and others, and liner notes by Aymeric Leroy"
