If you've read a review in Mojo, Uncut or the like, we'll have it in stock. We also trawl around the smaller labels and some 'Internet Only' outfits to stock hard-to get releases.  Everything that appears on this page is archived either below the logo at the top, or on the links down this side of the page. Wim Mertens // Blind Willie McTell  //  The Faces // Throbbing Gristle //  ZZ Top // Dwight Yoakam

Dwight Yoakam 'Reprise Please Baby : The Warner Brothers Years' "Gathering 87 tracks released between 1981 and 2002, this four-disc boxed set is the first collection to cover Yoakam’s entire career to date. Reprise Please Baby also contains three brand new recordings and a full disc of previously unreleased material. A deluxe booklet features rare photos and tributes from such Yoakam devotees as Dennis Hopper and Buck Owens" £37.99 And, this extraordinary story which I found on www. yoakam holler.com "a 17-CD Dwight Yoakam set is due early next year from Rhino Handmade, the Rhino Records custom division. The Yoakam set had been targeted for release this fall, but that date was pushed back because all the elements, from music to souvenir guitar picks to shreds of Yoakam's jeans, weren't in place in time" £as soon as
we can.

That ZZ Top Box Set that was due last year is back on track. 'Chrome, Smoke and BBQ' will contain at least four CDs made up of live recordings, remixes and other rare tracks and should be out in February 2003 on Rhino.
This is what Mute records have to say about the forthcoming Throbbing Gristle Box Set:  "This sumptuous and exclusive limited edition brings Industrial Records original Boxed 24 cassette edition into the 21st Century. The new release consists of 24 individually packaged CD's which encompass the majority of TG's live output sensitively remastered by Chris Carter. The box set will also include a sealed file containing a myriad of new and unique artefacts and information provided by all four members of Throbbing Gristle. The collection is presented in a hand-made case of the highest quality, and represents one of the most exciting and eagerly awaited releases this year" Should be about £159.99

The Faces box set "Five Guys Walk Into A Bar" will be a 4 CD box set including an 80 page booklet with new photos of the group and never before heard stories. Every recorded studio track by the group along with radio and 'live' performances will be included as well as unheard tracks and rarities.
Some box sets to look forward to in the Autumn: A Multi-CD set dedicated to Scott Walker and boxes from Siouxsie & the Banshees and The Cure.

Blind Willie McTell - 'The Definitive'
a 3 CD Deluxe Set featuring every recording from this blues giant. Includes booklet containing rare adverts and label shots. £17.99. Go here for everything about Blind Willie.

Wim Mertens- Aren Lezen - After 48 CD's worth of music since his debut in 1984, Wim Mertens presents a 13 CD piece divided in to 4 sets, 'Aren Lezen' 'Aren Lezen is a work of some six years creation, 13 CD's divided over four sets may sound heavy, but Wim Mertens imposes his commitment on his loyal (although limited in numbers) fanbase. Go here to check out Wim Mertens career, albums and soundbites. Not a bad price though, for 13 CD's - £79.99

ZZ TOP 'DRUM - BASS - AND - FUZZY GUITAR' a 4 CD retrospective with, as you'd expect, unreleased live and rare tracks, plus a glossy book, and all for £37.99

Just In - Jump To : Sam Cooke Specialty Box // Terry Reid // Andy Partridge // Holy Modal Rounders // John Hammond // New Order // Lennon Sweet Toronto DVD // Miles Davis DVD // Guided By Voices Box // Plush // Hearts and Flowers // Dando Shaft // Ian Carr & Nucleus // Herb Pedersen // Lou Reed // Gaslight Tapes

The famous Dylan former bootleg 'The Gaslight Tapes' has just arrived. The running order is as follows: Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall, Don't Think Twice, Black Cross, No More Auction Block, Rocks And Gravel, Barbara Allen, Moonshine Blues, Motherless Children, Handsome Molly, John Brown, Ballad Of Hollis Brown, Kindhearted Woman Blues, See That My Grave Is Kept Clean, Ain't No More Cane, Cocaine, Cuckoo Is A Pretty Bird, West Texas. £9.99
Two new Lou Reed reissues for you: 'Take No Prisoners' never officially released on CD, but its a long-time favourite among Reed fans. (from  www.shorefire.com:) "Recorded at New York's Bottom Line in May 1978, as punk was beginning its ascent, the album finds Reed lashing out at his audience and the music business in a series of explosive monologues, set against a backdrop of his greatest hits. Reed names names, veering from digressions on Norman Mailer, his high-school athletic career, and the price of drugs during expansive and radically rearranged versions of hits such as "Walk on the Wild Side," "Sweet Jane," and "Coney Island Baby." 2 CD's £12.99, and, 'Transformer' "Produced by David Bowie and Mick Ronson, the album yielded classic tracks such as the now-standard "Walk on The Wild Side," the Warhol-inspired "Vicious," and "New York Telephone Conversation." Reissued with new liner notes from Michael Hill and previously unreleased bonus material including acoustic demo versions of "Hangin' Round" and "Perfect Day." £7.99

Herb Pedersen - 'Southwest' (notes from evangeline.co.uk) "Herb was born in Berkeley, California and formed his first band, The Pine Valley Boys, a bluegrass outfit in his teens. He moved to Nashville in 1961 and performed on Carl Tipton's Bluegrass TV Show and later joined Vern and Ray playing 5 string banjo and singing. In 1967 Earl Scruggs invited Herb to deputize while he (Earl) was recovering from a hip operation and in 1968, Herb replaced Doug Dillard in The Dillards. After leaving The Dillards in 1970, Herb became a session musician and worked with Emmylou Harris, Gram Parsons, Linda Ronstadt and John Prine among others. In 1975 Herb joined Jackson Browne for a tour and the following year released his debut album, "Southwest" £10.99Two interesting slices of British quirkiness have just arrived on BGO: Dando Shaft: 'Dando Shaft'/'Lantaloon' "Dando Shaft began as a five-piece folk-band formed in Coventry in 1968 and comprised of Kevin Dempsey (acoustic guitar/vocals). Martin Jenkins (vocals, mandolin/fiddle/ guitar), Ted Kay (tabla/percussion), Roger Bullen (bass), and Dave Cooper (guitar/vocals). They initiated a unique mixture of acoustic folk with driving rhythms and impeccable inventive musicianship • In October 1970, Dando Shaft acquired the services of a female singer, Polly Bolton from Leamington Spa, who had previously sung with June Tabor. The first album, ‘An Evening With…’, was released in 1970 on the Youngblood label and gained a release in the US through the major MCA corporation. A change of label to RCA’s short-lived Progressive imprint Neon in 1971 for the second album, Dando Shaft, was followed by a release on RCA proper for the third, Lantaloon, in 1972 • While Dando Shaft remains a curious entry to the English psychedelic folk era, their music is curious but wonderful nonetheless" Tracks: 'Dando Shaft': 1. Coming Home To Me 2. Railway 3. Whispering Ned 4. Sometimes 5. River Boat 6. Kalyope Driver 7. Waves Upon The Ether 8. Dewet 9. Till The Morning Comes 10. Pass It On 11. Prayer Lantaloon: 1. The Addison Trip 3. Pastoral Graffitti 4. New Life 5. A Taste Of Sarsaparilla 6. Theme 1 Sarsaparilla 7. Theme 2 Feast Alfresco 8. Theme 3 Rites Of Man 'Snakehips Etcetera': 1.Rat’s Bag 2. A 2 CD set for £11.99.
On Collectors Choice Music: The Complete Hearts and Flowers "were a self-described “Georgia country folk meets Hawaiian ukelele folk-rock group” (actually, they used a lot of autoharp) whose two releases for Capitol are highly prized by ‘60s rock aficionados, here compiled together and out on CD for the first time. But that’s only HALF the story—we’ve also managed to dig up 13 unreleased tracks from the Capitol vaults, including very groovy (sitar!) versions of the Fred Neil tunes "Everybody’s Talking" and "Other Side of This Life" as well as some fine originals. The glorious sum: 35 tracks of late-‘60s SoCal folk rock (and you know that can’t be bad!) on two CDs, annotated by folk-rock authority Richie Unterberger. Includes from "Now Is the Time"—"Now Is the Time," "Save Some Time," "Try for the Sun," "Rain, Rain," "The View from Ward Three," "Rock and Roll Gypsies," "Reason to Believe," "Please," "1-2-3 Rhyme in Carnivour Time," "I’m a Lonesome Fugitive," "Road to Nowhere," and "10,000 Sunsets." From "Of Horses"—"Now Is the Time for Hearts and Flowers," "Highway in the Wind," "Second Hand Sundown Queen," "She Sang Hymns Out of Tune," "Ode to a Tin Angel," "When I Was a Cowboy," "Legend of Ol’ Tenbrookes," "Colour Your Daytime," "Two Little Boys," and "Extra Extra/Rock and Roll Gypsies/Extra Extra." A 36 track 2 CD Set for £17.99 Cult figure Liam Hayes' band Plush have only released 2 singles and 2 albums after 12 years in the biz. The first album was 'More You Becomes You' which disappeared only to become much sought-after. We've just got the second album 'Fed' on the Japanese 'After-Hours' label, in stock. What's it like? I tracked this review down from www.jabacock.com "Hayes plots his hooky melodies along strings of shimmering chords and fleshes them out with layer upon layer of brass, strings, winds, keyboards, percussion, backup singers -- yet his own clear, delicate vocals are the indisputable center of the mix. Most of the album was recorded and mixed a year ago, but Hayes spent another year tweaking and rerecording. Basic tracks were cut all over the city -- in traditional recording studios like Delmark's Riverside and Steve Albini's Electrical Audio, with a mobile setup on a soundstage, at the Congress Theater, and even on the roof of a south-side loft building...more. £17.99 (it's a Japanese import). From Scat Records: "The Guided By Voices' Box is now available again on CD. This new pressing is essentially the same as the first edition(s), but the package is slightly slimmer and uses jewel boxes instead of digipaks. It is still a 5 CD set and still features the artwork of the original LPs ('Devil Between My Toes', 'Sandbox', 'Self Inflicted Aerial Nostalgia', and 'Same Place the Fly Got Smashed') which were originally self-released by the band 1987-1990 in editions of 300 to 1000. There are no future repressings of the vinyl edition planned, so if you've been thinking about it, now is the time" There is also a disc of exclusive unreleased material, 'King Shit and the Golden Boys', whose contents are split between a-list 'Bee Thousand' outtakes and tracks from 1980s Shitcanned albums 'Back to Saturn X' and 'Learning to Hunt'. £47.992 DVD for you, firstly, directed by D. A. Pennibaker, 'John Lennon Sweet Toronto' features John Lennon and The Plastic Ono Band in concert from 1969 with guests like Eric Clapton and  includes four vintage Rock 'n' Roll greats. A couple of new (old) soft-pop psyche rarities on the way from Cherry Red: Mark Eric - 'A Midsummer's Day Dream' "In 1968 wrote a suite of exquisite soft psych pop songs, originally intending to find someone to cover them, as his friend ex-Animal Vic Briggs had with his instrumental "Night Of The Lions" Instead he entered the then brand-new Sound City Studios, stomping ground of The Millennium and Gary Usher among others, and made this beautiful album, catching the tail end of LA's pop innocence perfectly, just as it was gone forever" more... and, The Forum
'The River Is Wide'
"A long-lost piece of the soft pop/psych pop puzzle on eccentric LA label Mira records, home of the Leaves, satirical gay duo Teddy and Darrell, some of LA's best ever soul records, and Bobby Jameson aka Chris Lucey!" more...Should be £8.99 each.
New Faust Album - 'Patchwork' "After years of on-off debate about whether there are any significant unreleased works from the early days of Faust, now comes the group's definitive answer with the release of Patchwork: 1971-2002. While the album compiles material from right across the group's history to date, most is from the Wümme period, 1971-1974. Including new versions of classic Faust material such as It's a Rainy Day, Krautrock, Psalter and Stretch Out Time (from the original Faust Tapes), this is an essential new release" so says www.faust - pages.com.
