Magma - 'Presents Offering' an epic 4 CD Box Set being Magma's homage to to John Coltrane recorded over a seven year period (1986-1993). The box includes a 32 minute interpretation of Coltrane's 'Out of This World'. All the details are on seventh records web site. Ł39.99
Talking Heads ‘Once In A Lifetime’ box set - 3 CDs and 1 DVD, 54 tracks. "Assembled with all of the band members' participation, Once In A Lifetime' offers plenty for longtime fans as well as those just discovering the band. The three CDs provide the most comprehensive overview of the band ever released, compiling all the hits as well as album cuts and rarities. The audio discs include five previously-unreleased tracks.The DVD, is 'Storytelling Giant' (Expanded), which compiles all of the band's music videos on DVD for the first time. As bonkers as you thought it would be!!! - Sun Ra - 'Space is the Place' DVD "part musical documentary, part Biblical parable, part blaxploitation flick, part sci-fi epic, the film was one of the late pianist - philosopher’s rally calls directed at the black community, urging them to take notice and work to correct civil injustices in the Vietnam era. I described this set as coming in a cool metal biscuit tin, now that we've seen it, it turns out to be a huge cake tin!! - sensational packaging! Jacques Brel: Clocking in at 15 remastered CDs (with one bonus 28 track CD only with the box) 'La Boîte Intégrale' comes with a 100 page book and, as you might imagine, is the last word in career overviews for the great Belgian. The new reissue of The Gosdin Brothers 1986 album 'The Sounds of Goodbye' "collects together the contents of the "Sounds Of Goodbye" album and its attendant non-LP Bakersfield International sides, along with unreleased material and esoteric singles, including the Gosdins legendary Edict 45. Produced by Chris Hillman, this record was cut in December 1966, features accompaniment from Hillman, Michael Clarke and Clarence White, and is thereby tantamount to an outtake from Genes LP or even "Younger Than Yesterday". I've just watched both of the following DVDs and they really are as good as the advanced publicity made out. Even though the stage sets are of their time, (made-up railroad platforms, garages and bars) the film and sound are of very high quality and the performances are fantastic. Highly recommended...

I've just been reading about the 'The Festival Express' tour that Mojo Magazine featured last year. The film of this event has been seen at a number of Film Festivals and, according to a number of articles, is being prepared for a DVD release in the near future. The legendary Eddy Kramer is working on 5.1 mix for the DVD. The movie has been edited down from 85 hours of film, so lets hope for some interesting bonus material when it finally appears. One of the most consistent sellers over the years at SPIN has to be David Crosby's 'If I Could Only Remember My Name', so it's good to read in the new issue of Mojo that its due to be reissued in the new year, with bonus tracks - Crosby refers to the album saying "I think I'm going to do a 5.1 mix of it, because it was sort of an audiophile record with so much going on".... I can hardly wait and I'd be interested if you've heard more.
