The Return Of The Spectacular Spinning Songbook (Deluxe CD/DVD/10" EP/Book)

Hip-O’s Return of the Spectacular Spinning Songbook is a limited-edition box – only 1,500 numbered copies worldwide – culled from the group’s two dates at Los Angeles’ Wiltern Theater in May of 2011. The set includes a CD of 16 performances from both nights, ranging from all ends of Costello’s lengthy career, from “Mystery Dance” off his 1978 debut My Aim is True to the title track of 2010′s National Ransom.

The accompanying DVD showcases the second show on May 12 and includes highlights in covers of Nick Lowe (“Heart of the City”) and The Rolling Stones (“Out of Time”) as well as “Tear Off Your Own Head (It’s a Doll Revolution),” featuring a guest appearance from Susanna Hoffs, who covered the track with The Bangles a year after Costello released his version on When I Was Cruel in 2002.

The box set also features a 10″ EP with an additional four songs, a 40-page hardbound book of photos and Costello’s journal entries while on tour, a 20″ x 30″ poster, a limited edition tour postcard and a commemorative card signed by Costello himself.

“The Spectacular Spinning Songbook” made its first appearance in 1986 in Los Angeles during the “Costello Sings Again Tour.” Earlier this year, Elvis Costello and the Imposters set out on The Revolver Tour and, for the first time in 25 years, Costello once again allowed his set-list to be chosen by "The Spectacular Spinning Songbook,” a monumental game-show type wheel spun by select fans and featuring songs from his latest critically acclaimed release National Ransom, plus new renditions of hits, rarities and very unexpected covers. 
 The Return Of The Spectacular Spinning Songbook is a 3-disc (CD, DVD, 10” vinyl EP) live box set from Elvis Costello & the Imposters and is limited to 1500 copies worldwide. Each set is individually numbered with a special commemoration card personally signed by Elvis Costello.
 Recorded over a 2-night stand at The Wiltern in Los Angeles on May 11 and 12, 2011 the CD features the highlights from across the two nights, while the DVD is the complete concert from the 12th May with behind the scenes footage plus other extras. This show also features a guest appearance from The Bangles.
 Rolling Stone said of the shows “Costello worked the stage like a burlesque-club emcee, cracking wise at a mile a minute and spinning a dandy's walking stick” while the LA Times said "the kind of uniquely invigorating experience that warrants a buzzword all of its own; inspiring.”
 The super deluxe package includes a 40-page hardcover book packed with candid and concert photos, a tour diary of Costello’s musings from each tour stop, a 20” x 30” concert tour poster and a limited edition postcard plus a commemoration card personally signed by Elvis Costello. This collection is housed in a lavish box complete with a spinning replica of “The Spectacular Spinning Songbook” on the front cover.
