Details
DOUG DILLARD was one of the greatest exponents of Bluegrass music during the sixties and seventies.
He made his first albums with his younger brother Rodney in the late 50’s to early 60’s for ELEKTRA RECORDS, who released a string of ground breaking albums. ‘The Banjo Album’ was recorded in 1969 where he was backed by several rock musicians including GENE CLARK from THE BYRDS and BERNIE LEADON later to join THE EAGLES.
This release features four bonus tracks not on the original album.
This is an album of Bluegrass music firmly rooted in the works of pioneers like FLATT and SCRUGGS, THE STANLEY BROTHERS, and BILL MONROE.
Re-mastered from the original tapes, this album was considered at the time the definitive Bluegrass album.
