Details

THE HILLMEN were a Southern Californian Bluegrass band formed in 1962. They featured VERN and REX GOSDIN and later joined by a seventeen year old prodigy CHRIS HILLMAN.

THE HILLMAN played regularly throughout California, and caught the attention of record producer JIM DICKSON.

During 1964 DICKSON recorded the band in Los Angeles in an attempt to secure a recording contract with ELEKTRA RECORDS, who turned the group down. It wasn’t until 1969 that this album was first issued. During that time the band had split up, and by mid 1964 CHRIS HILLMAN was recruited by JIM DICKSON to join THE BYRDS on bass guitar in October of that year. The rest as they say is history.
