Forest - Concert

Recorded in May and October 1972 for BBC Radio 1 by DJ Bob Harris, these sessions may be all that remain of this seminal acid folk band’s elusive third album! Featuring songs not heard on either one of their LPs—1969’s self-titled debut and 1970’s Full Circle, both on Harvest—it is speculated that many of these songs would have appeared on their imminent third album had they not been suddenly dropped from their label (due to low sales and rapidly changing musical tastes). By 1972 Dez Allenby had left the band, leaving brothers Adrian & Martin Welham as the only remaining members, although Dave Panton (viola, sax) and Dave Stubbs (bass) were brought in for their live performances. By this time, particularly on tracks like “Everyday Laugh”, the Welham brothers were moving more into avant-rock territory and one can only speculate on where they could have gone from here. All songs by Welham & Welham except a version of Ray Charles’ 1958 hit “Leave My Woman Alone”.

Extremely rare live in studio recordings of one of England’s most superlative female-fronted acid folk bands, recorded in 1971 and 1972 with DJ Bob Harris for BBC Radio 1. Formed in London in 1969, Trees have been likened to a more psychedelic Fairport Convention (with the amazing Celia Humphris taking the role of Sandy Denny). These are mostly tracks that never appeared on either one of their studio albums (The Garden Of Jane Delawney and On The Shore both released on CBS in 1970) making it an especially significant addition to their repertoire! Don’t miss it!

Bickershaw

A must for any Grateful Dead collector, the 4 CDs of the Grateful Dead in this box set are actual official Rykodisc manufactured Bickershaw CDs. This box set is huge the box measures 19 inches by 13 inches and includes 6 cds, 2 dvds, 1 208 page book mainly focussing on the Grateful Dead, 10 postcards, 1 replicated poster. The legendary Bickershaw Festival took place on the 5th to 7th May 1972 in a small village near Wigan, Lancashire. Organised by the late Jeremy Beadle and Harry ‘The Count Bilkus’, it may have been one of the wettest rock festivals in history, but will always be remembered as one of the last all-night festivals, where the Grateful Dead played for over four hours! The Bickershaw Festival box set has been lovingly put together over the past eight years by festival worker, Chris Hewitt with help until late 2007, from Jeremy Beadle. As Chris said, "When Jeremy and I first started to plan the Bickershaw Box Set about five years ago, we wanted to create something that when you opened the lid you were transported back to the festival site." Accompanying the 6 CDs of music (both soundboard and audience recordings), and 2 DVDs (5 ½ hours of footage), is a 208 page hardback book containing personal accounts, music reviews and colour photographs. Beadle assembled one of the most ambitious programme of bands for any festival held in the North West (or UK for that matter) - bringing an incredible contingent of American acts to merge with some of the best folk and rock acts from the UK. On the bill was Captain Beefheart, Grateful Dead, New Riders of The Purple Sage, Dr John, Country Joe Macdonald, Pacific Gas and Electric, Flamin Groovies, Cheech and Chong, The Kinks, Donovan, Incredible String Band, Family, Linda Lewis, Hawkwind, Wishbone Ash, Captain Beyond, Brinsley Schwarz, Stackridge, Maynard Ferguson, Mike Westbrook and Haydock Brass Band. A festival music programme that started during the day on Friday and ran well into the early hours of Saturday and Sunday morning culminating with the late afternoon early evening set of the Grateful Dead on the Sunday. In the audience camping in the mud for the whole weekend was a certain young Joe Strummer who stated “Captain Beefheart’s set in the early hours of the morning at Bickershaw Festival was the best concert I ever went to in my life.” Another teenager who sat transfixed on the Sunday watching the Grateful Dead with their four hour plus performance, was a young Elvis Costello who said “seeing the Grateful Dead that day on that giant festival stage in a Lancashire field made me realise being in a band was what I wanted to do”. The whole of the London underground and music press glitterati were camped in those Lancashire fields to write about the festival. From Oz, Frendz magazine, IT Magazine, to Disc, Record Mirror, Melody Maker, Sounds and NME. The crew from the Roundhouse ran the stage and Time Out printed the festival programme. Chris Hewitt from Ozit Records wrote in his book, “Bickershaw was the last of the great all night festivals and probably the last one where the festival organisers allowed the fence to come down (around 20,000 locals got in for free to boost the audience for The Grateful Dead to 60,000 on Sunday afternoon and evening). By 1973 the serious businessmen promoters moved away from the chaotic three day rural events in farmers’ fields and started to move towards a profitable controllable one day concert in a sports stadium… In this kind of event the promoters are spared the nightmare of trying to control something like a medium sized town full of music freaks for three or four days.” The 40th Anniversary Box Set is the most comprehensive archive of this landmark music event ever put together, and one that could only have been assembled by those that were there. All tracks on cds 1 to 4 recorded live at Bickershaw Festival 7th May 1972…

If you are looking for raw, psychedelic hard-rock, look no further! We present the complete recordings (1968-1972) from Wicked Lady, the legendary UK underground power trio leaded by ace guitarist Martin Weaver, later a member of Dark on their "Round the edges" album.

Here's the first volume of our Wicked Lady collection, both a CD version and a lavish double vinyl of "The Axeman Cometh". Our edition features new artwork and liner notes by doomy psychedelic guitar God in person, Martin Weaver, who tells the real (and bizarre!) story behind Wicked Lady for the first time. The stuff of a legend, this is a real fest of fuzz, wah-wah and heavy riffs that will blow the mind of any hard-psych collector.

SIDE A: 1. Run the night (5:08) 2. War Cloud (7:37) SIDE B: 1. The Axeman Cometh (6:52) 2. Life and Death (9:58) SIDE C: 1. Wicked Lady (6:01) 2. Out of the dark (10:14) SIDE D: 1. Rebel (3:32) 2. Living on the edge (10:09)

Second volume to complete the anthology of Wicked Lady recordings, their final tracks recorded in 1972, just before the band split up and guitarist Martin Weaver left for Dark (of "Round the edges" fame). Another batch of excessive, over-the-top doomy psychedelic hard-rock including underground classics like "I'm a freak" and the 21 minute epic "Ship of ghosts".

Again, both a CD version and a lavish double vinyl which offers maximum sound quality, new artwork and liner notes by doomy psychedelic guitar God in person, Martin Weaver, telling the real story behind Wicked Lady for the first time.

SIDE A: 1. I’m a Freak (5:01) 2. Tell the truth (5:09) SIDE B: 1. Passion (9:29) 2. Voodoo Chile (4:42) SIDE C: 1. Why don’t you let me try (5:00) 2. Sin City (7:05) SIDE D: 1. Ship of ghosts (22:00)

Here's one the most obscure US private pressings from the late 60s / early 70s. For many years, the Misty Hush Revival name was only a rumour whispered in collector's circles, with only a handful copies known of the original album around today. Like The Bachs or The Index, this is one of those hard to describe albums which seem to live in a world of their own. Despite the late '72 release date, the music here sounds more late 60s than early 70s and the whole album has a cool, lost-in-time atmosphere.

The group were in fact a club band from New Jersey but surprisingly all the tracks are originals, no cover versions, and they range from fragile, dreamy pop-psych numbers to raw garage, fuzzed-out jams and teen-beat sounds. Like Patrick Lundborg says on Acid Archives: "A cool, atmospheric trip for fans of the tri-state late '60s club sound"

First time ever CD reissue, remastered on 24-Bit, original artwork, booklet with rare pictures and liner notes by Jack D. Fleischer, and two bonus tracks not on the vinyl release.

Singer to singer – Summer means new love – Your heart is broken- Tell me baby – Look my way – Gone away – Danny’s home made jam – Now I need you – Till I get back home – 3 AM – Summer means new love (instr./Flashback) – Tell me baby (alternate version) – Don’t let the sun get you crying

CD for £13.99

This is his first longplayer, released in 1971 by Sayan Productions. It's a compilation of tracks taken from previously released 45s, plus the track "Lory" that only appeared on this album. Killer psych rock with strong Turkish flavour, this features Baris' all-time classics like "Derule" or "Daglar Daglar", as well as the brutal wah-wah flooded "Küçük bir gece müzigi" with its infectious drumming that drives mad anyone searching for sampling stuff.

Not to be confused with two different releases with the same name that actually have different tracklist and artwork, this is the real album as it was originally released, for the first time having the legit CD reissue treatment for your big pleasure. In addition, this will also include a booklet with great shots of Baris and extensive linernotes.

Daglar Daglar – Kirpiklerin ok ok eyle – Kagizman – Küçük bir gece müzigi – Kol dügmeleri – Derule – Iste hendek iste deve – Seher vakti – Anadolu – Aglama degmez hayat – Lory – Katip arzuhalim yaz yare böyle

From 1975, this is Baris Manço’s masterpiece. Stunning cosmic, psychedelic, groovy conceptual album with fantastic electronics use and a strong Turkish folk flavour as usual. Again, this is the first official, proper CD reissue, and comes with a booklet with linernotes and photos.

Acih’da baga vir! – Kayalarin oglu – 2023 – Yolverin agalar beyler! – Uzun ince bir yoldayim – Yine yol göründü gurbete – Baykoca destani (gülme ha, gülme / gelinlik kizlarin dansi / kara haber turnanin ölümü / vur ha, vur! / durma ha, durma!) – Tavuklara kissst de! – Kol basti!

In 1976, Baris released his third album which was actually also a compilation of songs previously released in 45s, as happened with his debut. For this CD release, and basically because of contractual reasons, we are presenting you this compilation with a few changes: two of the original songs are not there, and we added six new ones, including one that was only released on cassette in Germany.

So, what we get here is a scorchin’ collection of funky psychedelics Turkish way that will knock you out. Big Baris beats them all, the King of Anadolu Pop!!!

Booklet with linernotes and photos is included also.

Hal Hal – Gönul Dagi – Nazar eyle – Hey koca topçu – Vur ha vur – Dön desem dönermisin? – Gülme ha gülme – Ben bilirim – Ölum allahin emri – Kalk gidelim küheylan – Lambaya püf de – Iste hendek iste deve – Rezil dede – Egri bügrü

This is a production dating from before Richie Havens became famous. Here published on CD (with digital remastering) for the first time ever.
"Recorded in the same year has his break-through album “Mixed Bag”. This is a piece of historical music: something to help you rediscover the prehistory of a pop music masterpiece. “Why is a recording that was made in 1967 being released on CD over 40 years later? Well – I suppose – because it sounds so good! What I heard was Richie Havens singing and playing solo songs from the American folk and blues genres, – it was amazing – a voice of great strength and emotion and very impressive guitar playing. Richie Havens was performing in the clubs and coffee houses in and around NY Greenwich Village. If you want to hear a powerful, emotional Richie Havens singing and playing a repertoire of great American songs, check out these recordings.” – ALAN DOUGLAS (producer)

This DVD brings together two TV programmes from producer Ralph J Gleason covering the San Francisco psychedelia scene of the late sixties and early seventies. The first programme 'Go Ride The Music' features two giants of the era performing live in concert. Jefferson Airplane perform at an intimate indoor venue whilst Quicksilver Messenger Service are filmed in the open air. There are also cameo appearances from David Crosby and Jerry Garcia. 'West Pole' features a diverse range of acts including Ace Of Cups, Sons Of Champlin, the Grateful Dead and the Steve Miller Band performing live in various settings and takes a more analytical view of the music and the times.
"This DVD set gathers a pair of vintage and previously unavailable television specials that aired in 1968 (West Pole) and 1970 (Go Ride the Music) respectively on the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) predecessor National Educational Television (NET). While industrious enthusiasts have traded comparatively poor-quality versions of both for decades, Eagle Vision is the first to have licensed either for home video. West Pole initially aired on Friday, August 16, 1968 on KQED. It was hosted and narrated by the show's co-producer Ralph J. Gleason -- whose credentials in and around San Francisco were numerous. Among them were contributions to theSan Francisco Chronicle, co-founding the Monterey Jazz Festival, as well as founding editor of Rolling Stone magazine. Although Gleason indicates the title West Pole is a reference to the magnetic musical forces that seem to be pulling creativity and artistry toward the Bay Area, ironically West Pole was simultaneously the name of the managerial company run by Ron Polte -- who handled the affairs of several of the bands in the program, namely the all-female Ace of Cups, Quicksilver Messenger Service (QMS) and Sons of Champlin. In between Gleason's comments are words from audience members who were queuing up for an early July of 1968 Fillmore East gig by the Butterfield Blues Band, Ten Years After, and Fleetwood Mac. Plus, arty films featuring the Grateful Dead, Steve Miller Band and QMS. These are augmented by in-the-television studio performances by Ace of Cups and the Sons of Champlin. One particularly interesting inclusion is Steve Miller Band's 45 rpm B-side (to the single "Dear Mary") only rendering of the languid, bluesy "Sittin' in Circles." The Barry Goldberg-penned tune is perhaps best-known from the Electric Flag or Goldberg's own Barry Goldberg Reunion. Go Ride the Music aired on KQED December 6, 1970 with the title derived from a lyric in the Jefferson Airplane's "Wooden Ships" -- one of seven selections the band run through in the comfy confines of Wally Heider Studio in San Francisco. The Airplane's segment was filmed on April 2, 1970, while QMS -- who share the bill -- are seen in front of an assembled throng at Sonoma State University circa August of 1969. As little footage of QMS exists, the full-length clips of them playing the unreleased "Warm, Red Wine" and the What About Me (1970) era "Baby, Baby" and "Subway" are particularly welcome. As are the all-too-epigrammatic shots of David Crosby and the Airplane's Jorma Kaukonen (lead guitar) as they fool around in front of the camera during the Wally Heider shoot. There are also a few equally brief words of wisdom from Jerry Garcia who at one point describes the interaction of the Airplane as "good dope." Another Go Ride the Music rarity is "Emergency" -- a cut that never made an official Jefferson Airplane album during the band's seven-year (1965 -- 1972) tenure. It was finally compiled -- from Go Ride the Music -- on the Jefferson Airplane Loves You (1992) box set." Lindsay Planer

7LP box set of authentic field recordings made by Alan Lomax (and British folk singer Shirley Collins) in 1959 for Atlantic Records. Meant as a kind of follow-up to Alan and his father John Lomax’s legendary work for the Library of Congress in the 1930s, Lomax (now with hi-fi stereo equipment) once again set out for the Southern states on a two month long tour that resulted in over 80 hours of recordings! The recordings were divided by genre and released in 1960 as a series of 7LPs now available in one deluxe box set with a 16 page booket!

Walking away from the commercial success of his band Sugar, Bob Mould reinvented his approach to music-making again in 1996 with his self-titled third solo album, often referred to as ‘Hubcap’ due to it’s simple but striking sleeve imagery. Writing and playing everything himself, the recording frames emotive and hook-laden songs with a playful arrangement of drum machines, overdriven guitars and bubbling keyboards. A noise-pop gem that has long been regarded by fans as a firm favourite. It is combined here with the follow-up album from two years later, the last release of Bob’s short but productive partnership with the seminal Creation Record Label.A valedictory farewell to the guitar-based rock that he would subsequently take a long sabbatical from (and later return to further down the line), The Last Dog And Pony Show once again highlights his expert songcraft and highly original sonic vision.

This deluxe expanded edition of both albums has been lovingly remastered from the original tapes, and includes b-sides, as well as a bonus disc containing a full length live concert from 1998

The 32 page booklet contains rare photos, memorabilia, and an exclusive new interview with Bob Mould by Mojo journalist Keith Cameron that tells the story behind the albums in his own words.

In now for £11.99

Disc One of The Pearl Sessions includes the original album as well as the original mono singles from the album ("Cry Baby," "Get It While You Can," "Me and Bobby McGee").

Disc Two is a collection of behind-the-scenes recordings illuminating the Pearl sessions with highlights and insights revealed in candid studio dialogue, song demos and alternate takes including nine previously unissued tracks.

"The Pearl Sessions, a newly-curated definitive two-disc edition of Joplin's final studio album premiering, for the first time, newly discovered studio outtakes, live performances and other sonic rarities recorded during her dynamic last chapter of accelerated tumult and creativity.
Originally released on January 11, 1971 (three months after her passing on October 4, 1970), Pearl debuted Joplin's final finished studio recordings as well as intimations of what the influential American country-soul-blues-rock singer was capable of delivering.
The only album Joplin ever recorded with the Full Tilt Boogie Band, the touring ensemble that had backed her on the Festival Express (a mythic 1970 concert tour by railroad across Canada with the Grateful Dead, the Band and others), Pearl included canonical studio recordings of songs that had been introduced to audiences on tour.
Peaking at #1 on the Billboard 200, a position it held for nine weeks, Pearl included some of Janis's most familiar and best-loved performances including her cover of Kris Kristofferson's "Me and Bobby McGee" and her off-the-cuff a cappella "Mercedes Benz."
When putting together material for a 40th anniversary edition of Pearl, researchers discovered a treasure-trove of previously uncatalogued audio tapes from the album's sessions, produced by Paul Rothschild. An industry legend, perhaps best-known for producing the first five Doors albums, Rothchild further solidified his position in music history with his work on Pearl.
The Pearl Sessions brings together, for the first time in one package, the original mono versions of the album's 45s alongside the original LP tracks as well as the revelatory newly-discovered alternate versions, outtakes and vocal takes of Pearl's classic tracks.
The Pearl Sessions includes newly discovered recordings of Janis in the studio, joking with producer Paul Rothchild and her Full Tilt Boogie bandmates as they work through what would become an essential part of Janis Joplin's core catalog"
